Griffin Colapinto’s Best Unseen Clips Of 2018
Number 12 in the world, number one in our hearts.
It’s been awhile since a surfer has entered the CT with as much hype as Griffin Colapinto.
The San Clemente teen launched his way into the public eye with a Hail Mary reverse at the 2016 Hawaiian Pro, which landed him a near-perfect score and a surprising heat win.
Since that moment, Griffin has not only trademarked that particular type of end-section rotation, but he’s managed to keep all of our attention in the process. By perfecting the fabled “Q snap” and nailing a few more Hail Mary heat wins, Griffin earned his way onto the 2018 CT after taking top honors on the WSL’s Qualifying Series.
After the first five events of the CT season, Griffin sits at Number 12 in the world. This is a respectable placing for a rookie, but it doesn’t quite capture the true magnitude of what he’s achieved both as a competitor and entertainer over the last few months. If you were to ask any surf fan, pundit, or fellow-CTer which rookie has impressed them most over the 2018 season, and who showed the most World Title potential looking toward the future, the answer would be, almost unequivocally, Griffin Colapinto.
The video above, which was filmed and produced by San Clemente’s video stalwart Jacob Vanderwork, shows some unseen moments from Griffin’s first three events on Tour. We highly recommend that you watch.
