John John Wants To Get “Better” At Surfing

It’s official. John John’s second world title has turned him into a competitive megalomaniac, the likes of which we haven’t seen since an early-2000s Andy Irons, or a late-1990s Kelly Slater before him. I couldn’t be more excited about it. 

“I wanna be that guy that you go into a heat with, and he just seems unstoppable,” John says in his latest WSL hype reel.

This is the type of attitude that spawns champions. Legends. Bona fide masters of our sport. The type of dominance he’s explaining comes only once in a generation, and this statement is John’s way of putting a foot on Gabby’s neck and saying No. It’s me. 

And so long as he doesn’t come up against Caio Ibelli, I can’t see anyone stopping the young Hawaiian.
