Watch Now: The Thrill is Back: Christian Fletcher
The OG aerial assault.
“The reason why I surf the way I surf,” says Christian, “is because that’s the way I surf.” Mr Fletcher’s the original aerialist, he was doing things in the late 80’s/early 90’s that didn’t make sense. His approach is skate, punk and metal. It paved the path for the future and at the time people didn’t know how to react. The cat from San Clemente, grew up with ramps and along with Matt Archbold was the first to put them to good use. Back in December, I walked up to the top balcony of the RVCA house to find Bruce Irons. The walls of the stairway reverberated to merciless finger licks of a distorted guitar and blast beats. I found Bruce over looking Off the Wall, holding a tablet plugged into an amplifier. As silver ribbons billowed from the unfiltered grit between his lips he asked, “have you ever seen Wave Warriors III?” I had. “Here’s Christian Fletcher’s part.” I grabbed the machine and restarted the clip. “This shit right here, this is why I surf the way I do.”
