The Battle For Los Angeles With Matt Pagan
A guide to surfing in California’s largest city.
Matt Pagan’s one of the City of Angels’ golden children. And, as has been noted – repetitively – Southern California had a memorable winter. The all-too closed out beach breaks of LA greeted the northern energy with makable corners and open ends. Sandbars from Dockweiler through Redondo shifted on a weekly basis and addressed the winter activity with rare grace. Mr Pagan resides in the South Bay. After spending the early winter months on the North Shore driving through tunnels at Pipe and launching the shallow ramps of Rocky Point (3:28); he made good use of the waves north, south and in front of his home. The surf in Los Angeles is a fickle affair, at certain breaks localism reigns supreme and if you want to score, Matt’s as apt a guide as any.
