Letty Mortensen Teases The Masses, Sadly Not In A Speedo
Dessert before mains.
Remember when surf DVDs came with bonus sections, b-roll, behind-the-scenes, what have you?
Those precious extra minutes made you feel like you were part of some inner circle, privy to footage that didn’t quite make the final cut but was still too good to leave on the shelf. Taylor Steele even went full Da Vinci Code, creating password-protected extras that demanded both the thumb dexterity of a teen on a 2005 flip phone and the patience of a monk as you arrow-keyed a combination of numbers and letters on a well-worn remote.
For a while, the bonus section left us. Now, like tiny sunglasses – though far more welcome – it’s making a comeback. Letty Mortensen’s five minutes and thirteen seconds of cutting room gold previews Rusty’s upcoming film, Revival – a title that feels like a statement of intent, given that Rusty hasn’t released a full-length film since Changes in 2008.
For those keeping score, Rusty’s track record also includes Scissors Paper Rock (2004), with a soundtrack pulled straight from Tales From the Australian Underground. The song My Pal by God, featured in James Catto’s (Ricky Sick’s sister) section, remains one of the all-time great pre-surf amp tracks.
Shot in times of COVID, this footage was compiled mostly on R-dot team trips across Australia, when Letty was still blissfully unaware of his future Stab Highway Europe World Title alongside Team Red.
Revival also features Wade Carmichael, Tereva David, Ollie Henry, Caio Ibelli, Jojo Roper, Jacob Szekely, and others; it drops exclusively on Stab Premium on November 11.
In the meantime, have a taste of Letty’s Rainbow.
