Cached: Mikey Wright

Mikey Wright has been cached away for a little while. Stored for a time until his surfing works its way through adolescence, til he makes enough dumb decisions to know the right ones, til he’s 18 and the driver of his own career. Cached away til now. Mikey still lives on the NSW North Coast near Lennox Head, out the back of his Dad’s house in a self-contained duplex he shares with Wade Carroll, whose film work you see here. And while comps are his forte (he beat CT gents to win the Chiko MP Classic earlier this year), they’re not where the heart grows fondest right now. He’s on a year, maybe two, of working his shit out. And sure, there’ll be more dumb calls, but it’s about finding out what makes him tick, what pisses him off, what gives him enjoyment, and right now that isn’t in a jersey and that’s just fine. This time it’s here, in French wilderness where he surfs with Owen technique, but Mikey edge. Next time, who knows? But we’re sure it’ll be just great.
