2011 is the year of the controversial WT event. A dream tour it hasn’t been, but a dream for the denizens of surf website forums, it has. Many things to talk about, to complain about. Dane releases a hi-fi short film then doesn’t turn up ’cause his knee hurts. Kelly tweets how good Fiji is and doesn’t turn up. Adriano does a floater and infuriates everyone. Shoulder-height swell’s a rarity, except at Bells. Rip Curl go to San Fran, to the ire of many. And the crowning jewel of this year, for those who sip Haterade, the Quiksilver event in New York. Of course, your pals at Stab have enjoyed most elements of the 2011 WT so far, but this site’s furious readership commentary voices another opinion. So what we wanna know is this – have opinions changed? Are those who were adverse to this event at its first announcement, still that way inclined? Or has the prospect of surfing’s largest-ever prize purse and the vibrancy of an event so close to the Big Apple swayed opinions? Please, do tell.
