Coco Ho Injures Herself At Waco, Pulls Out Of Her First CT Event In 11 Years

Stephanie Gilmore’s response: “Airs are so dumb.”

First John John, now Coco Ho!

When are the aerial-wrought knee injuries gonna stop taking down our beloved Hawaiian?

The logical answer would be never, because airs are inherently dangerous for lower hinges, tendons, and ligaments, but for the sake of our viewing pleasure and their career longevity, we really hope it’s soon.

Just 30 minutes ago, Coco Ho reported via Instagram that she’d injured herself while attempting airs in Waco, which will result in her inability to compete at Jeffrey’s. Here’s the clip and full explanation:

Pains me to say I’ll be missing my first @wsl event in 11 years.. I had to officially withdraw from JBay as I suffered a minor tear in my MCL the other evening trying to be a ladybird [laughing emjoi] Only up from here… so thankful for the love and support [heart emoji].

The foremost comment on the post comes from 7x World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, who said (to the tune of 48 likes at the time of posting): “[Scowly face emoji] airs are so dumb.”

While it’s difficult for us to fully agree with that statement coming off the back of Stab High, we do understand what Ms. Gilmore is getting at: airs are disproportionately injuring surfers in 2019, and therefore attempting them is not in most athletes’ best interest.

While that may be true, we’d like to offer some appreciation for Coco’s efforts. It’s not every CT surfer—especially a 28-year-old female—who would go out of their way to stop-over in Texas before the J-Bay event to touch up on their aerial technique.

It’s safe to say our little Ladybirds inspired her. Heal up soon, Coco!
