Have you ever pulled over to check your boards due to a rattling sound or another driver pointing at the roof of your vehicle?

You, like us, have.

And, like most of us, have tightened the straps and continued on your way thinking, I hope my boards don’t fly onto the road and cause the cars behind me to pile atop each other like high-speed metal dominos.

Early this week, Chris “Chippa” Wilson arrived in Los Angeles. He was headed to Waco, Texas to taste the world’s most famous air section. Upon arrival, his board bag showed, however, the bag containing his fins, leashes, and clothes didn’t leave the ground in Australia.

This would be the least of his worries.

“We were flying out the next day and my bag wasn’t going to come in time,” Chippa tells Stab. “That was an easy fix, I just went shopping in Newport. I bought my sponsors’ clothes, fins, leg ropes and stuff. Which was cool. The only sort of hard thing was the stickers. I got markers and destroyed my boards with dumb scribbles of my sponsors’ logos and shit.”

“When we landed in Dallas, my boards arrived,” he continues. “The van we had didn’t have windows so the strap down was pretty awkward. We packed six bags on the roof and drove from Dallas to Waco. Halfway through the trip, there was this lady who kept pointing at our roof. We were all just thinking, Oh, maybe she’s just tripping on what luggage is on our roof – that maybe she knew they were surfboards and we were going to Waco,” he laughs.

“Then someone else drove past pointing…” At that point they pulled over, Chippa stayed in the back. The rest of the crew got out and strapped the boards back down. “They just said, we’re all good and we got back on the road.”

“When we got to the zone [BSR Cable Park], I got out to grab my boards,” he says. “When I looked they were gone. I asked the boys if they took my bag in already and everyone said no. I was like, okay, we got a good old prank going on here… But it wasn’t a prank.”

They turned the car around. It was dusk. They drove nearly the entire way back to Dallas/Fort Worth International in search for Chippa’s second lost bag of the trip. “It is a big bag, if you found it in the highway you’d be grabbing it. I think they’re behind a wakeboat being scurfed or something about now,” he laughs.

“Or they could have been run over by a semi-trailer… who fucking knows!”

So if you found a surfboard bag between Waco and Dallas, it’s Chippa’s. There are five boards inside including one Drag soft top.

“It had my board it in too,” photog Lugo tells us. “My favorite board!”

If you successfully return the bag to Chippa before he leaves for California (tomorrow!), we will reward you 500 United States Dollars.

The lucky thing about traveling with professional surfers is usually someone has an extra board. “Nate Tyler is a fucking legend,” Chip says. “He only brought three boards but he gave me one of his. I spent the day putting packing tape over his deck and spray painting them, then drawing my sponsors’ logos over the packing tape. It was a nightmare,” he laughs.

“I’ve been surfing in cargo shorts because my clothes just made it California yesterday and all I bought in Newport was a pair of jeans, two shirts and a pair of shorts.

“It’s pretty good. I’m actually kind of enjoying it.”

If found, email a photo of the boards to [email protected]
