PBS Takes On Opioid Crisis And Andy Irons Documentary
The story of The People’s Champ’s struggle resonates with a nation in the throes of the Opioid Crisis.
The public reaction to the veil raising on Andy Irons’ struggle with depression, addiction, and bi-polar disorder has been largely positive.
The film’s done a tremendous job raising awareness around not only mental health and bi-polar disorder, but the current plague of opioid addiction in America and elsewhere the pain killer has gotten its hooks in communities.
“The pill run’s the one that’s hard to kick…” Bruce Irons says in the film, a cautionary tale for the masses, about one of the most dynamic and complicated talents to ever step foot and find solace on a surfboard.
This week, PBS newshour rolled out a ten-minute special about the film and about Andy’s life, which you can watch above.
