Watch: What Happens When A Brand Takes Its Youth Team To A CT Event?

High-level surfing is twice as impressive when the information is transmitted directly to the brain via electrical signals from the retina. 

Clips are fun to watch, but don’t do it proper justice. 

In person, you get so much more context. And, if you’re a young surfer hoping to crack the CT someday, seeing that level of surfing up close gives you a good idea of where to place your goalposts. 

When the CT recently hit Portugal, Roxy decided to get some of their younger talent amongst the big dogs. Namely, Anette Extabarri, Milla Brown, and Vahine Fierro. Anette is 16 from the Basque Country. Milla is 16 from Oz. Vahine is 24 from Tahiti, and helped show the other two the ropes. A wonderful mix. 

It feels similar to Quiksilver’s Young Guns approach. Often, former team manager Steven Bell would bring the brand’s junior team to CT events (while caddying for Kelly). And it worked. Kanoa Igarashi, Jack Robinson, Leonardo Fioravanti — were on many of those trips. All of them, at time of writing, are ranked within the top 10.

See the level. Get to the level. Easy, in theory.  

And these girls are already on their way. Vahine will compete in this year’s Olympics alongside Annette’s sister and fellow Roxy surfer Janire. 

While the WSL called days off, there was no such thing for the Roxy crew. They scoured the coast, and made a challenging forecast look quite fun. 

And it all would have been twice as impressive if you shared the lineup with ’em.
