Meet The Winner Of All 12 Stab In The Dark Boards

You never know what is enough until you know what is more than enough.

The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom!

Once Stab in the Dark with Jordy Smith was feather-dusted, after the premiere, the meet, greet and ride all 11 1/2 STID boards (half being the busted Graham Smith ((Jordy’s dad)) shape), we figured we’d give them away. Instead of sending 12 individual boards shaped with the love and devotion most reserve for canines to 12 individuals, we made it a package deal. Then our dear friends at Futures and O’Neill said they’d match us and donate 12 of their most sought out product to that winner (fins and suits, of course!).

We ran a competition. We had the public select the shaper Jordy wore best, insert their email address, and few cheeky follows for a chance to win all of the above. Our winner pulled at random was one Grady Kenner (@guppy) who we flew over to California from Virginia Beach, VA. He’s 20 years old. He weighs in at about 170 pounds, 6’0 feet tall, and Jordy’s Stab in the Dark quiver would serve as step-ups for the man – we were relieved that they would be ridable. Grady also, to our delight, is quite handy on a surfboard (see his OBX drainer from the East Coast’s most recent serving below).

Early Saturday morning, we loaded a trunk full of boards, a box of fins and wetsuits and did an opportunistic surf check in north Huntington Beach. It was 7 AM. The tide was full. The waves were lapping up onto the shore. Jordy and Grady assessed the conditions. It was surfable for lab rats. They assessed the surfboards. They were surfable for Grady. Jordy signed them. We lined them against a wall. We took some photos. We had breakfast. We talked about the film, the upcoming season in Hawaii and how Grady was going to fly all 11 1/2 boards back to Virginia.

“If they ask, just say there’s one board in that bag,” I didn’t tell Grady at breakfast but should have.
