NLand Surf Park Reopens

After six months of closure for repairs, NLand in Texas has officially reopened. It’s no Slater’s wave pool, or ‘The Cove‘ for that matter (even though The Cove is just a modified, and in a way, updated version of NLand’s Wavegarden tech), but folks down in Austin are psyched nonetheless. The 160-acre park — fitted with a 13-acre lagoon along with lodging restaurants, a retail shop and a surf school — reopened last Friday.

“Spearheading innovative technology is not for the faint of heart,” said NLand’s founder and CEO, Doug Coors (yes, that Coors — the mountains are blue!) in a recent press release. “The response from the global community has been humbling and we are eager to showcase our updated lagoon and amenities for 2017.” 

NLand was forced to temporarily close down after a tear in the lagoon’s lining caused flooding in nearby properties. But, fixing the initial mishap, Coors is confident the revamped NLand will be a success. Mostly on account of the fact that the wave is welcoming to both beginner and experienced surfers alike.

“We designed the park to be an inclusive experience so surfers of all levels can experience the waves together while enjoying a delicious meal, original shopping and fabulous views from our beach, the pier and the overlook,” Coors continued.

It’ll be interesting to see how NLand’s commercial success compares alongside ‘The Cove,’ which dropped a convincing edit starring some big names a few days ago, and Kelly’s wave pool; where things have been relatively quiet as of late except for a day old Instagram post from Kelly’s good friend, Pat Towersey (seen below). The 15-to-20 second tube ride might not be an official Kelly Slater Wave Company branded piece of advertising, but it’s convincing enough.
