Watch: Dane Reynolds Digs Into Back Pocket, Finds Stellar Unseen Clips
Five minutes of 2014 Ventura getting pulverized.
Things were different in 2014
Gabriel Medina won his (and Brazil’s) first world title. Mick Fanning had yet to be attacked by a great white shark on a WSL broadcast. Dane Reynolds was still on Quiksilver and tearing the shit out of every hapless peak in his way while setting the internet aflame.
Now, Dane has released a bite-sized raw time capsule of unseen footage from that rose-tinted decade, and we couldn’t help but take a peek. It’s Dane as sharp and as on rail as I can remember, a hark back to his Marine Layer Production days. I know I wasn’t the only one who had those videos bookmarked.
“I grew up watching Marine Layer Productions as a kid,” Rolo Montes said while pondering his 2023 Stab Surfer of the Year picks. “That’s what really got me into surfing. I still go back and watch his old videos to get psyched before a surf.”
If you’re like Rolo, this will have you reaching for your wax. The only thing missing is an underground indie/rock soundtrack. Sit back and take a five-minute whiff of nostalgia as Dane unleashes a barrage of backside blowtails and crease-inducing cutbacks on Ventura’s wonky wedges.
The clips may be a decade old, but they haven’t aged a day.
