Kolohe Andino caused some damage to his ankle last week. He got excited by Dane Reynolds’ most recent clip on Marine Layer, paddled out at Riviera and went loony on his backhand. After landing in the flats on a full-rotation, he managed a high-ankle sprain and tore ligament in his foot. No bones were broken luckily, but he’s looking at some time outta the water.
Just before that happened, he was surfing Oceanside after returning home from Fiji. Jimmy Wilson was down there shooting and clicked this frame of a large backside nosepick. Jimmy also forecasted for us the coming state of injury in surfing and shared some thoughts on Kolohe’s rookie year: “It hasn’t been the 2012 I’m sure he imagined having so far, but hopefully he isn’t out for too long with the injury. These ankles on pro surfers are getting busted everywhere. It’s something that isn’t going to get less. It’s for sure going to increase with all the crazy airs going down.” Hopefully Jimmy’s wrong about the increase, but we tend to agree.
