Are Sharks Swarming The Streets Of Florida?

Regardless, Hurricane Matthew’s angry.

The nature of the internet is to overhype reality’s nature. And, right now, as you’ve heard, Florida’s getting pounded by a not-so-little Hurricane named Matt. The same one that ravished Haiti–the death toll, at this time, is near 800. And that number will sadly, and surely grow. What I previously said about overhyped reality, and media based scare tactics does not apply to Haiti. That’s devastating.

Shark in street

Here’s the most commonly seen photo. The thumbnail for this article has also been making its rounds. God bless photoshop.

Back to the title of this piece, there’s a photo circulating of a shark swimming through the streets of Jacksonville. You could say it’s trending, and throw a hashtag in as a prefix. Florida is the shark attack capital of the world, so it doesn’t seem unreasonable that one could make their way into the streets. However, according to The Spun, this particular photo’s fake and has been dormant since Hurricane Sandy back in 2012.

This however, is real. And those girls need to get the fuck out of there. Photo: BBC

But here are some things that are happening right now in Florida. According to BBC News’ live reporting:

Matthew ripped away roofs and toppled trees while a storm surge brought massive flooding in places like St. Augustine and Cocoa Beach.

Some residents were trapped inside their homes due to the rising water.

The first US death directly related to the storm has been confirmed in Daytona Beach, Florida.

A woman in her 60s went outside to feed her animals after the storm had subsided and was struck by a falling tree, according to Jim Dinneen, Volusia County manager.

More than a million Floridians are without power.

And if you go onto Surfline, you can watch it live. People are surfing Hightower Beach, Florida and it looks kind of fun…for Florida. The brunt of the storm’s missed the southern region of the state, however up north, the residents are standing their ground (or evacuating) and waiting for it to pass. Also, Matthew’s been downgraded to a Cat 3.
