Surf Snowdonia Wavepool Closes!

Surfing’s silver medal trending topic, the Snowdonia wavepool (Gold – Sharks, Bronze – Alana Blanchard’s derrière – forever trending) has closed! For now. Well that’s what happens when you put something technological in the hands of the Welsh! You have to pay to get into Wales, in England we’d always joke that they’d clearly got the tolling system the wrong way around, but now there’s a legitimate reason to go, or at least there was. The land formerly famous for leeks and lax attitudes to homo sapien/sheep relations, has now hit the headlines for their charming wavepool, that actually looks like a blast. But, they’re experiencing some teething issues.

Here’s Surf Snowdonia’s official statement (reading with a thick Welsh accent is encouraged):

“We’re really sorry to announce that our surf lagoon will have to close for a number of days, effective immediately. This unavoidable closure is due to a mechanical fault which became apparent earlier this morning. In order to carry out the necessary repairs our engineers need to drain the lagoon completely (six million gallons!). The repair process will take a number of days and we will update you regularly as the situation becomes clearer.”

Or in Welsh (It’s actually a Language that’s still on their signposts!) :

“Rydym yn wirioneddol ddrwg gennym gyhoeddi y bydd ein morlyn syrffio yn rhaid i gau am nifer o ddyddiau , yn effeithiol ar unwaith . Mae’r cau na ellir eu hosgoi o ganlyniad i nam mecanyddol a ddaeth i’r amlwg yn gynharach y bore yma. Er mwyn gwneud y gwaith atgyweirio angenrheidiol mae angen ein peirianwyr i ddraenio’r y lagŵn yn gyfan gwbl. Bydd y broses atgyweirio yn cymryd nifer o ddyddiau a byddwn yn rhoi’r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf i chi yn rheolaidd wrth i’r sefyllfa ddod yn gliriach.”
