Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
Duncan Macfarlane is the eye of the Billabong team, he is the eye of Coffs Harbour and he is two tones of gold. Dunc’s breezy persona is unbefitting of his razor sharp eye (in the best way). His childhood was colourful, having spent a good chunk (four years) of it in Eastern Africa while his dad worked as a mining engineer. They even stuck around for another two years after their next-door neighbour (the American Embassy) was bombed in ’97. Nowadays the only kinda bombs in Dunc’s life are the ones he wears on the head in the water, while he frames up the most delightful moments of action. His beach angle game is one of the best, too. And never mind that chopper…
