Along with a wonderfully-redesigned logo, the ASP today unveiled a three-pack of new buddies: Facebook, YouTube and ESPN. The press release swam with pleased-to-announce’s and honour-to-be-working-with’s and things we can look forward to. Stab bit down on the apple to the core. Here’s the seeds we found, the ASP’s new digital presence in some refined terms.

– Commencing 2014, these new partnerships will illuminate the Men and Women’s World Tours, and the Big Wave World Tour. Never mind the qualifiers, we’re all about premium now. More incentive to qualify!

– ASP CEO Paul Speaker is thrilled that pro surfing will again feel the comfort of the ABC umbrella (ESPN’s on the ABC Network), because ABC were first to support surfing on TV back in ’62.

– ESPN will be the exclusive US broadcaster for pro surfing from 2014-2017, with highlight shows straight after the event (probs not the five-minute wraps you’re used to).

– Tim Reed, ESPN senior director, plans to extend the X Games brand into pro surfing. We’ll have to wait and see what that really means.

– Other international broadcasters are currently being finalised, but y’could assume Fuel TV in Oz.

– Some events already use a YouTube player for the live stream (The Rip Curl Pro, Portugal included). But YouTube will now be ever-present: “For the first time in the sport’s history, the ASP YouTube channel will enable fans around the world to go to one global destination to view surfing digitally.”

– Some findings by global research firm Repucom: Surf fans are the recently-identified number one sport fan for sponsor consideration and loyalty in the US. And, surf fans are the world’s most kinky for social media (six times more likely to engage than, like, boring everyday sports fans).

– So now, rather than being the unofficial social media platform for ASP, Facebook will be the official social media platform for ASP. Pop dat cork.

– For some hilarious headshots, pretty infographs, quotes in big font and more general information, go preview the new look ASP over here.
