The rebel tour for realz.

For the next 24 hours, the inaugural Skeleton Bay Shootout (SBS) presented by Monster Energy is on. What is the SBS? Simply put it’s an underground thing whereby any surfers in attendance can win $30000 Namibian Dollars ($1649 USD) for the best wave ridden during the swell, pro or joe.

We’ll have highlights packaged up for you asap. Follow @alanvangysen and @nownowmedia for updates throughout the day.

Currently, Stab’s co-founder Sam Mc is parked up on the berm with Taj Burrow frantically re-reading the BS tube riding chapter from Taj’s Book Of Hot Surfing in preparation.

Fun Fact: It is estimated that over 1 million cubic tonnes of sand moves along the point here each year, driven by the wind and waves, which is responsible for the continuously changing shape of the bay. Despite all this movement, the wave has remained fairly consistent over the past 15 odd years, or as long as the surfing world started taking notice.

What does seem to change, however, is where the wave focuses the bulk of its energy along this two mile stretch, depending on the sand buildup. A decade ago it was the top of the point, then it shifted more towards the bottom. Right now, the sweet spot is about halfway down the point where the wave is hitting a pronounced grower section.
