A Second Australian Surfer Dies in The Mentawais

Within a little over a week a second Australian surfer has died in the Mentawais; Adam Dube. His body was found yesterday morning after he vanished during a night swim with some pals.

Mentawai Police Chief Indro Sasongko told Sydney Morning Herald a group of 10 friends showed up late Tuesday, boards in hand looking to share barrels and smiles. They had a few drinks at night and went for a swim. That was the last anyone saw of Adam. “After an hour they returned to the boat,” Indro said. “But only nine showed up. Dube was not there.”

The search that ensued throughout the night was futile. The morning awoke to the grim truth of Adam’s fate. This incident occurred shortly after another Australian surfer, Ronald Schneider was dragged over the reef and killed during a day of heavy surf.

Sasongko said police have been providing warning to visiting surfers looking to get themselves a piece of the hollow pie during the dry season.

“He was so well loved by so many people around the globe,” said Sophie Dube, Adam’s sister. “He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.”
