Twitter or Tattle?
Surfing, like any other sport, is rife with gossip. What better way to kill five minutes than catching up on useless information about surfers you know and love? A quick perusal of a pro’s Twitter can give more insight into the going-ons in their life than any other media format. Some of ’em should probably work […]
Surfing, like any other sport, is rife with gossip. What better way to kill five minutes than catching up on useless information about surfers you know and love? A quick perusal of a pro’s Twitter can give more insight into the going-ons in their life than any other media format. Some of ’em should probably work on that brain-to-typing-finger filter though.
Chris Cote
Like most others in the surfing world, our buddy at Transworld Surf, Chris Cote, is a self-confessed Dane Reynolds groupie. The ones that aren’t self-confessed are closet groupies, but still groupies nonetheless. Hence why the photo above stirred such jealousy. Seen Dane’s movie, Thrills, Spills and Whatnot? We haven’t. Tell us about it.
Jordy Smith
Jordy Smith’s hire car got stripped in Africa. Amid the incredibly cute surfing clips on his new Marinelayerproductions-esquewebsite, were these images of the looted automo.
While we’re on Jordy, he’s been encouraging his tweet-followers to vote for his sister in Sport’s Illustrated’s New Model Search. Jump over here, and if you like what you see then give her a vote. She looks like him, huh?
John Florence
Had enough John Florence yet? Neither have we. Kid won both the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout and the Volcom Pipeline Pro last month, beating Pipe-king Jamie O’Brien in both. Check out this video of his winter highlights and find out that he ain’t just a cave-beast – John got panache above the lip, too.

Timmy Reyes
US surfer Timmy Reyes was none too pleased after a split with his shoe sponsor. Is Twitter the appropriate format to air frustrations of this nature and pose questions such as these?
The Coolie Kids
The profile film of seminal Coolie Kid Dean ‘Dingo’ Morrison will be released in March. Fellow Coolie Kid Joel Parkinson’s already seen the biopic, and is definitely vibing – he’s calling the year’s best.

Dave Rastovich
How good is Dave Rasta? Every time y’think you’ve got the guy figured, he surprises you. This is Rasta’s “I Surf Because” short film, part of a series Billabong have been putting together about their team.
Bede Durbidge
Finally, after Bede Durbidge posted this on his Twitter
Our curiosity was tickled. We called up surfing’s kindest man to find out more:
Bede Durbidge: “It’s a little device, probably about the size of an iPhone. It goes in the back of your rashie, right in-between your shoulders. When you’re surfing, you don’t even know it’s there. It’s going to be an optional thing, but once everyone tries it, they’ll see there’s no reason why they wouldn’t wear it. It measures how fast you go on a wave, how much distance you covered throughout your heat and it can read the impact of a wipeout. It also tells you how fast you’re going through your turns. It’s pretty amazing, it’ll be exciting for the (Quiksilver Pro) comp. Especially for spectators, when they can see how fast surfers are going on the wave. It’ll be interesting to find out who the fastest surfer on tour is. They should make bets on it. There’s a two and a half grand bonus for whoever goes the fastest. It was only small today, but I got up to 29.9 kms per hour on a wave. We only surfed for about 45 minutes and I surfed three or four k’s. It’s crazy how much it can measure, it’s going to be really interesting.”
