Hooked Surfer Is Dragged By Wrists After Fishermen Refuses to Slack Line
The biggest catch in Huntington Beach this holiday season.
POV: It’s Thanksgiving day, and a swell-filled sea glistens brighter than a bronzed Turkey thigh.
After a helping of pumpkin pie, you waddle down to the local conveyer belt on the North Side of HB pier. The current does most of the work, but you manage to put one over-stuffed arm in front of the other. Suddenly a sharp pain hits your right wrist, and you trace the point to a hook connected to a line…connected to a giddy fisherman.
The man with the rod pulls the line like he’s Captain Ahab to your Moby Dick. A few colorful phrases escape as you’re dragged toward the pier by your wrists like a 14th-century criminal.
The surfer, Will Doreen, told Stab:
“I could not get out the hook with my finger because there is so much tension. I had to use my teeth to rip out the hook from my wrist. In doing so I was hoping that the hook would not catch my lip and make the situation worse.
“My wrist is OK and I was able to stay out. All I have is a small puncture wound, but the pain was incredibly intense at the time.”
After Will managed to pry the hook out of his wrist, the fisherman shot an award-winning grin and cast his line back in the pool. Thankful.
