Lee Wilson Knows What He Wants

We’re living in the epoch of the free surfer. There’s a real possibility to make a living without ever donning a jersey. Deliver solid clips, maintain a relevant social media presence and be a likeable guy. These are some of the keys to success – all boxes Lee Wilson ticks. Though it’s Lee’s naturally nonchalant style and ability, that we enjoy watching.

Since joining the Chilli fam, Lee’s elevated himself. He’s been making his presence known with clips that prove he measures up to the best.

When Stab last spoke to Lee, he told us that for the first time in his life, he felt like a professional athlete. He’s living the family life in Umalas, Indonesia and enjoying surfing. Now entering the line up with the critical mind he was never previously afforded.

Nerves of breaking boards and not being able to replace them, has all but disappeared. No one likes breaking boards, though it comes with the territory. Especially when surfing as critically as Lee. Chilli ensure he’s got enough fresh foam, and Lee pushes them the way any world class board should, throwing them off ledges and boosting high above lips.

Now he’s flicked “IF” in our direction. It’s a lof-fi, artistic exploration and destroying of his local ramps. His surfing is big and critical. Stab have always wanted to know what is under the feet of guys we feature. We know there is a lot to be learnt by looking at the dimension of surfers better than ourselves.

After speaking to our pals at Chilli we’ve learned that Lee has kept relatively true to what he was riding only months ago. With three go to sleds for an Indonesian backyard. The Nevada, the Faded and the Black Vulture. Notice the Black Vulture is five inches shorter than his other boards. This model Lee’s been working closely on with his shaper, and previously told Stab that it was his “favourite board.” The Black Vulture a fuller nose, with added foam under your guts. The wide point is a little closer to the nose, which gives it a wider outline, resulting in ease when paddling. The added surface area also means it gets speed through the flats. Check out Lee’s full dimensions below and him put his Chilli quiver to the test above.

NEVADA

5’10 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4 = 24.8 L (Squash Tail)

FADED

5’10 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4 = 24.8 L (Round Pin Tail)

BLACK VULTURE

5’5 x 19 1/4 x 2 1/4 = 25.3 L (Swallow Tail)
