Who’s Gonna Win G-Land If It’s Two-Foot And Onshore?

Let’s take a fistful of mushies, wander into the jungle, and see the future together.

G-Land, she flat.

According to sources in Java, it’s been waist-high and slapping on the reef the past few days, with a couple funky burgers at Kongs. Nobody wants to run there, but it’s possible in a worst-case scenario.

It’s been steady onshore as well, despite the mind-melting jungle heat. Only way to cool off is with cold beers, and rumor has it our sweltering surfers will drink them out of just about anything.

Despite the conditions, competition must soon resume as the event window closes on June 6th. Let’s talk about who might win in these sub-supreme conditions, and how you might make some money on it.

Forecast:

On the bright side, there’s a long-period swell filling in today that should hold through the weekend. Looks like we’ll kick back off either today or Friday and finish Sat.

On the not-so-bright side, the new swell is still quite small and also southwest in direction, which G-Land doesn’t particularly enjoy.

There are conflicting forecast theories around the comp site. Some expect the new swell to be equal in size or slightly bigger than the first day, on account of its lengthy period (17s). Others suggest that the height of the swell is too small for the period length to make any real difference, and that the swell direction will fuck the whole operation regardless.

First reports this morning have the conditions at slightly better than the last few days but still mostly atrocious. So let’s expect the worst and hope something magical happens.

Below are my Round 2 betonline.ag picks, which skew toward average surf (some odds have changed since I made my picks):

  • $250 on Bronte Macaulay at +115 to win $288 (A little rogue, perhaps, but I happen to know something about her opponent that makes me fairly confident…)
  • $10 on Gabriela Bryan at +200 to win $20
  • $10 on Johanne Defay at +100 to win $10
  • $50 on Samuel Pupo at +215 to win $108 (sorry Kells)
  • $5 on Jake Marshall at +145 to win $7
