‘Desmond’ Is A Potent Pharmacosurfmovie Starring The Best (& Worst) Of Byron Bay
An ode to the 90’s punk surf movies section era ft. Soli Bailey, Kieren Perrow, Kyuss King, Garret Parkes, Krooky, Crab, Brick, influencers, others.
Fun, funny, fungating.
There’s no obligation to watch a surf film, of course. But what’s a fiend gonna do? As any ostensible psychedelic spirit guide will tell you pre mushie trip, “you are the passenger”. I stayed along for the ride. Enjoyed it too. Loosely.
Byron Bay is a great place. Went there once then moved there. Like every other cunt. Can’t help but feel it’s losing its soul as with each new footy WAG-filled Rover parked out the front of Raes/and/or disingenuous van of ponzi-scheming crypto hippy dishing out unsolicited advice for ‘financial freedom’/ multi-story carpark plan submitted to DA/Hemsworth/ thumbed luxury apartment block plonked on the Belongil bern. 60,000 rental applications over the Summer supposedly. That might be a BS stat. But it sure feels that way.
Anyhows, my two cents. Acutely aware this could be a bit of pot calling the kettle, so take the synopsis from a real local, Nick Colbey, the guy who stitched this wig together. He knew the old Byron and found some comedic relief in the slow gentrification. Can also thread a tube or two. There’s a couple within.
“It’s the year 2022, Range Rovers out number Willzy-like souped up cars 10 to 1, there’s a Netflix series called Byron Baes, botox is in, affordable housing is out. The surf is more crowded then the boxing day test with Warney flipping a few, fires rage and floods engulf us but one thing will always stay the same: Rex Hunt is still a desmond.
Desmond is a local fast paced and electric surf film starring Soli Bailey, Kieren Perrow, Kyuss King, Garret Parkes, Joel Paxton, Zak Skyring, Duke Wrencher, Jhamil “Nuke” Coorey, Nick Colbey, Cash Cow, Piney Jyoti Walker, Torren Martyn, Finn Crisp, Hobbit, Brick, Crab, Tom Donny etc.”
Don’t be a Desmond.
