The Paradise Club
Swinging from the rafters with Ozzie Wright, Noa Deane, and Volcom.
There’s nothing quite like a lil’ planned anarchy to disrupt the repetition that is life. And our joint at the Hotel Steyne with Volcom was just that. Opposite the rain-soaked Australian Open of Surfing scaffolding, the Steyne threw itself into a mosh pit, with the upstairs Moonshine Bar the centre of the action.
Andrew Doheny’s band, PowerLunch, teamed up with Noa Deane’s band Blister, and Ozzie Wright, to provide the noise, and Bati Rum contributed the liquid stimulant. Amps screamed, walls shook, the crowd stomped.
Noz wasted no time ripping into some chords and making his presence felt on stage. Jack Freestone, Mitch Coleborn, Ryan Callinan, Soli Bailey, Christian Fletcher, and many more moved among the crowd. It was the kinda head-banging daze that starts early and powers well into the early hours, snapping into sharp focus during particularly exhilarating moments – of which there were many (like, a face-painted Oz Wright swinging from the rafters). Here’s to a weekend spent in punk-rock paradise…
