Five dudes – let’s call them philanthropists – are just about to strike lines off their bucket lists. Perhaps you’ll recall a while back, when we brought to your attention that the Hurley Pro would be offering five of the highest bidders the chance to surf Lowers with Rob Machado, and no on else. The funds raised are to be donated to the San Onofre Foundation. The bidding’s closed, and the San Onofre now has $15,000 more to help preserve what they love.
Some of the philanthropists plan to possibly be even more philanthropic: Buggs, a Souther-Cali gent who won spot number five, will surf if the waves are decent, but it’s too small, he’s gonna gift the spot to “a grom on the beach.” Right on, Buggs. Mike Harvison of Colleyville, on the other hand, is coming from Texas to Cali purely to surf empty Lowers with Rob, and no one blames him for it. Matt Bower, comin’ straight outta San Diego, bought the session as a surprise gift to someone. And we shall applaud his selflessness.
This is all gonna unfold between the semis and the finals, which will theoretically be one of the best times conditions-wise. Which is always a big ‘theoretically’. The continuing awesomeness of this event really dazzles.
