Noah Beschen Broke His Ankle At Chopes After A Booger Stuffed Him
“I thought I was gonna come out then the foamball hit my ankle and tweaked it, I knew I was hurt right away.”
A stuffing at the hands of a boog-dude in Tahiti has Noah Beschen on the recovery wagon for the next couple months. Luckily he’s young, resilient, and should be back in fighting shape in the near future.
We grabbed a quick chat with him to find out exactly what happened, how badly he’s hurt, and what he plans to do while the bones knit.
Stab: Run us through what happened in Tahiti…
Noah: What happened was, I kinda whipped it on this wave last second. Because a friend of mine told me to go and it’s really hard to catch waves over there in Tahiti. Especially on that swell because it was so crowded. So I just kinda realized I could catch the wave at the last second and went. Afterwards, when I made the drop, I looked up and saw that bodyboarder just flying down in front of me.
I tripped out and was just, like, “Oh, there’s not really much I can do.” So I just pulled in behind him and then it spit and I couldn’t see anything. Then the foam ball came up and, like, I hit it really hard and it came up and tweaked my ankle.
And that’s pretty much that.
How bad is it?
It’s fractured in two places. The fibula is fractured and the tibia was kinda fractured too. Just two small fractures. It’s, yeah… it’s pretty bad.
Is this your first serious injury?
I broke my arm in two places when I was younger, skating. It’s only gonna be two, two and a half months, of me being out. So it’s not too bad.
Are you going to miss any trips?
I will. For sure.
You said you spun around super late. Do you think the guy just looked at you and decided to shit on you? Or was he just oblivious to your presence?
I think he definitely didn’t see me. I whipped it last second, and you have to commit to it so early that you don’t really have much time to look around and see what’s going on. I went last second, and he was already going, so it just happened like that.
He was super sorry after, too. He came up to me, like, “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” But, uh, whatever. I care more about my ankle being all messed up than, like, that… It’s just, I don’t know. Things just happen.
What’s your plan for your recovery time? Play video games? Learn to juggle?
I like playing the piano, so I’ll probably learn some songs. Definitely some video games. I don’t know… It’s pretty heavy. I’ll figure out something to do.
Me and my friend were talking about maybe doing some acting classes. Like maybe try to be in a commercial or something like that. Try to learn how to act. Just keep busy.
