Free Jabs For Remote Folks
SurfAid launches ‘A Fair Shot’ campaign In Indo.
SurfAid has just launched A Fair Shot campaign to share our recent expedition to support the distribution of free COVID-19 vaccines in the remote surf islands of Nias and Telo, Indonesia.
Indonesia has been one of the hardest-hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the crisis began 4.3 million Indonesians have tested positive for the virus, 143,000 have died and eight million people have fallen back into poverty as a result of the pandemic. 26% of Indonesians are currently fully vaccinated.
While urban areas like Jakarta are now seeing increased access and supply of vaccines, rural and remote areas are disproportionately impacted and lagging behind. As the world starts to reopen to surf tourism, we believe it’s only fair that the locals in the places we love to surf have access to a free COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves from the virus.
So far SurfAid has visited seven communities to run walk-in clinics and administered 1550 vaccinations to people in remote communities on a week-long expedition onboard the Sumatran Surfariis surf charter boat, the Mahogany.
