Aussie Stud Samples 4’0, 5’0, 6’0, And 7’0 Crafts In America’s Premiere Wave Pools

Dakoda Walters: 4 boards, two pools.

Last year, Angourie’s wiry 16-year-old slider, Dakoda Walters, was challenged by Stab founder Sam McIntosh to ride just four specific boards in the month of May.

A 4’0, 5’0, 6’0, and 7’0 of varying shapes.

Dakoda argued that May, which is historically east coast Australia’s best month of surf, wasn’t an ideal time to perform this type of test due to his packed contest schedule. Sam countered that the sum of chasing pro junior points would amount to zero in the scheme of a pro surfing career.

As is typically the case, Sam won the debate and Dakoda was all the better for it. You can see the result below:

Now 17 and the runaway leader on Australia’s Junior tour, Dakoda wanted to take the same four-board concept and elevate it in 2019. So with the help of Stab and the WSL, Dakoda grabbed four new, slightly altered shapes and brought tem to America’s premiere wave machines—Waco and Lemoore.

Dakoda used the consistent nature of the waves to experiment with different lines and approaches on his ultra-varied quiver. Results varied between awkward and exceptional but all are worth watching.

So, like, go watch it already.

PS: Dakoda, would you mind bringing the 7’0 to Yeppoon to measure the wave’s true size?
