Tonight in Torquay, with Bells enjoying an Easter Sunday layday, after most of the world tour enjoyed a near breathless afternoon and a swell pulse at Winki or Rincon, The Electric Acid Surfboard Test, starring Stephanie Gilmore, premiered (sans spoilers) at Boardriders Torquay.
Our friends at Corona provided cold beers for anyone clever enough to ask for a yellow wristband, while Sam and the Quiksilver crew played host to Darren Handley, Acid Test contributor Shyama Buttonshaw, and even legendary Fireball Fish-shaper, and Michael Peterson’s brother, Tommy Peterson, who sat with Steph’s very own pops to watch the film.

As the house lights dropped, the crowd quieted to a whisper as Steph took the screen, keeping the masses thoroughly engaged until the cliffhanger ending.
“I went to the Currumbin premiere, then booked a ticket, hired a car… I was promised I’d learn who won the fuckin Electric Acid Surfboard Test,” Darren Handley joked after the crowd was left hanging. “Who do I send an invoice!?”

While the audience didn’t learn this year’s EAST winner, the night belonged to Sam Moody and Sage Erickson – Moody arriving dressed like a car mechanic/Village Person, and Sage taking over Ashton Goggans’ hosting rolls with aplomb, peppering guests with questions while wielding a dead cat mic like a champ, alongside her beau, Stab’s ace in the hole, Jacob “Woody” Wooden, who cut the clip above.
