During the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast, Vans scooped together their Aus surf team for the first time, which included Wade Goodall, Thom Pringle, Caleb Reid and Kyuss King. Instead of hanging around with the flash and trash, the gang retracted a little, into the shaping bay. The team each designed and painted a board, to attend the Alley Fish fry at Currumbin Alley. Then, they took them surfing!
“Grant Newby shaped most of the team rider boards (all but Wade’s board),” says Vans’ own John Parmeter. “And Dan McDonald of DMS shapes shaped Wade’s board, plus the three Vans boards. We then spent the week hanging out painting boards, getting in the water, going to skateparks, checking out the amazing rock pools at Currumbin creek, that is where the photo of the van charging thru the water came from.”
