Watch: The Wave That Destroyed Mikey Wright’s Ankle
Impressive and painful.
When you’re consistently punting ‘ankle breakers’ you’re bound to come down chopped and screwed every once in a while. Mikey Wright did just that yesterday in Western Australia. Everything was looking gravy; the wind up, release, twist, grab, before things go south. We’ve seen him stick these five hundred times before, but this time the touch-down’s ugly. The rotation’s incomplete as his board makes contact with an unstable ceiling of foam at high velocity, simultaneously the turbulence explodes upwards (not a good thing). Ligaments are blown and Mr Wright is grounded. There aren’t any reported breakages so we’ll see the boy who loves the onshore hucking into the tradewinds again in no time.
