Surf Photographer Mark McInnis Lost Everything In An Oregon Forest Fire
Here’s how you can help.
Renowned photographer Mark McInnis has made a career out of documenting the raw beauty that defines the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, the very place that has given him so much has recently taken it all away, when McInnis’ Oregon home was tragically burned down in the Holiday Farm Fire. He lost everything, as per his Instagram:
“My entire photo library, my camera collection (which included family heirloom cameras from my grandfather, mom and dad), precious, irreplaceable, items I inherited from both of my fathers when they passed, our 1969 VW Transporter truck, my huge coffee table book collection, all of the art I’ve collected over the years, all my film negatives, surfboards, wetsuits, motorcycles…”
We truly can’t imagine what it’s like for a creative to lose the entire archive of their work as well as all tools necessary to create more. From what we can glean about his demeanor in the face of utter tragedy, Mark is one good fucking human being. He was literally refunding Venmos from his friends trying to support him before one of them had to sit him down and force him to accept their support. Chris Burkard and Josh Mulcoy have set up this Go-Fund Me for Mark where you can donate directly. In a situation where it would be so easy to take the help, Mark is insisting 10% of profits over their goal over $30,000 be donated to The Upper Mckenzie Volunteer Firefighter Fund.
Thankfully, our friends at Slowtide have thrown their support behind Mark and are offering this towel featuring one of the many frigid sessions he and Josh Mulcoy have documented. All profits from the towel will go directly to support Mark with the pre-sale period ending October 15th. Helping a guy who refuses to take without giving to others is always a good thing.
