Photolyfe: Trent Mitchell
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
Trent Mitchell is a man of few words. Luckily, his images speak, like, volumes. Based in Burleigh Heads, Trent is world-renowned for his breathtaking imagery of the ocean, both above and below the surface (funnily enough his new book is called Above/Below). Trent is a master at making the ordinary look extraordinary. His work is raw, honest and pure. Oh, so pure. When asked what he loves about shooting the ocean, Trent replies: “There are no second chances.” And what about the motivation behind his latest book Above/Below? “1/2 + 1/2 = 1 = ocean,” Trent says. We catch the drift – he lets his work do the talking, and we’re happy with that.
You can see Trent’s work doing a lot more talking and purchase his latest book here.
