Nixon has a Dark Side
A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi are the kind of culture-shifting films that don’t come around often. They defined genres and careers. Yes, the early noughties prequels were a bummer. But The Force Awakens, by all reports, will be a return to form. Star Wars is the single most licensed franchise in history / existence ($12 billion in toy licensing alone since 1977). But it’s the most recent licensing we’re interested in: One that involves makers of fabulous timepieces, Nixon. This one’s for the geeks and detail-obsessed. The Dark Side collection is first to emerge from the range and it’s a doozy. Stormtrooper and Imperial Pilot-inspired watches and accessories, as well as a Darth Vader timepiece (with the complete Vader series and the Boba Fett collection to arrive in a couple of months). The whole joint really honours the legacy of the original films with details like custom caseback art, minute hands inspired by helmut ventilation systems and all sorts of nuances that fans of Star Wars will really appreciate. Which I am entirely unashamed to admit includes me. Get at it here.
