A New Sticker And A Handful Of Mentawais Moments With Imogen Caldwell
“I mostly just laid around and ate, there was always food being put out and I can’t help myself!”
Stab’s undeniably an avid follower of Imogen Caldwell’s travels.
Wherever she goes, there’s usually a photog on hand, shooting Imogen hurling herself into dangerous situations on a surfboard or capturing her daily meandering, hunting waves, riding motorcycles, or casting a line with her man, who happens to be a fine waterman himself, Cortney Brown.
More often than not, though, she’s actually working, looking fantastic for the lense—she is a professional model after all—and we’re more than delighted to have her gracing our screens once again.
This time she’s been in the Mentawai Islands – a stone’s throw from her natural habitat in the red desert of Western Australia.
This isn’t the first time Gold Coast lensman and long time Stab contributor, Juan Medina has shot with Imogen. The pair worked together a year ago back in WA, the images still fresh in our memories. At the time, Miss Caldwell told us of her idolisation of Sabre Norris, a description of her ideal getaway (involving a weber and a swag in the middle of nowhere) and how her favourite time for love is “anytime, all the time.”
It’s this kind of attitude that holds our hearts captive.
With this recent batch, we also noticed a little something different about Imogen—or, more specifically, with her surfboard: a new sticker!
We dropped her a line to catch up.
Hey Imogen, we’ve just been handed a dreamy gallery from your recent Mentawais vaycay. How was it?
We got the odd few, surfing mostly in the South. Nothing big, but it was so fun. The boat we were on,
Sibon Charters, it’s such a beauty!
What is it that keeps drawing you back to this part of the world?
I love living on boats, surfing all day, eating good food.. Far out, what’s not to like?! It’s a lot like home, remote and the same easy lifestyle.
You get any A-plus days?
We got Thunders the best, barely anyone out, clean and consistent little barrels all day.
What else did you get up to outside surfing?
A bit of fishing, Juan and I swam to shore and shot some photos as well. I mostly just laid around and ate, there was always food being put out and I can’t help myself!
These trips are pretty old hat for you, any surprises this visit?
I found out when I landed in Padang that I’d be sharing the boat with 12 Portuguese dudes. Even though they rarely spoke English, it was an interesting trip – I did a lot of listening.
You’ve changed sponsors since we last spoke, what’ve we missed?
Yeah! I’ve joined the O’Neill family. They are such an awesome brand, I couldn’t be more stoked.
What’ve you got planned this year?
A lot of travel. I already have a few trips locked in, which is exciting. Working on a few things in and out of the water, I don’t want to say too much at this point you’ll just have to wait and see!
