Longer Boardies, Shorter Shins, Bigger Carves?
The Y2K bug is back, courtesy IPD’s Best Boardshorts of 2023
The return of the Y2K aesthetic is simply a fact at this point.
Product: IPD Faceplant Y2K Fit 22” Boardshort
Price: $75
True to the turn-of-the-millennium style, these boardies are big and flowy with heavyweight fabric, multiple prints, and below-the-knee appeal for the Y2K simp. No razzle dazzle or forward-thinking tech here, just straightforward shred shorts.
All in all, the Faceplant Y2K 22″ boardshorts feel great in the water. Their soft fabric, Lycra tie closure (sans velcro), and plenty of room to move make for a winning combo. Just add some wraparound shades, throw on a Trilogy DVD, and your core score is through the roof.
X-Factors:
- Y2K fit and 22” outseam offer ample leg-room
- Wide waistband for added support and style
- Throwback sueded fabric with futuristic GORE‑TEX Durable Water Repellant (DWR) technology
- Contrast triple needle stitching at seams for added durability against wear and tear
- Self-fabric embroidered applique art (aka flames)
Despite their generous length, these boardies never felt like they were in the way. If anything, the extra length/weight had me feeling more protected, and, well, pretty fucking cool. Side note: if you’re going to run these as your day-to-day or for marathon sessions, consider wearing compression/undershorts.
Verdict: Core score up-level obtained.
