Billabong Just Made A 100% Recycled And Bio-degradable Wetsuit
…And it actually works.
We recently wrapped filming on Best Wetsuits 2020/21.
Billabong was the only company that submitted a truly eco-centric suit. That is to say, their new Furnace Natural is made from 100% recycled fibers (not neoprene) and has a special enzyme (Ciclo) that will allow it to one day biodegrade in a landfill.
Upon hearing this, my first instinct was, “What a wonderful initiative—too bad the suit’s gonna suck.”
I hate that my mind automatically assumes all things “sustainable” will be inherently worse than their petroleum-based equivalents…but it’s typically the case. Which is why I was so happily surprised when the Furnace Natural performed better than the vast majority of suits in our test (coming soon).
The recycled material is incredibly soft and stretchy, the Graphene interior keeps you sufficiently insulated, and knowing you’re not actively hurting the environment while wearing it decreases the weight on your shoulders by 34%.
Check out the Furnace Natural above, and stay tuned for a full review in the near future.
