Only A Few Things In Long Beach Are Certain: Death, Taxes And Agenda

Scenes from Agenda’s variety show in Snoop Dogg’s homeland.

In it’s second public-facing incarnation, Agenda Fest Long Beach was absolutely stacked. A couple thousand beautiful people and a whole lot going on, the weekend saw installations and appearances from Mark Gonzales and Bobby Hundreds, talk stories with the Workaholics dudes, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson and Anders Holm, performances by acts that, if the block-and-a-half lines to get in were any indicator, are very popular with Southern California teenagers, as well as live shaping demonstrations, a massive, bustling food court, and the first year of Stab and Agenda’s partnership doling out due credit to some of surfing’s best and brightest…

Thursday and Friday were fairly mellow days, compared to the raucous affairs industry events a la Surf Expo circa early-’00s, but saw a hell of a lot of what marketing wags like to refer to as “cross pollination” between streetwear, skate, and up front and center, surf—a weekend summed up perfectly by Gonz, ironically scribbled on one of Agenda’s massive white partitions: “We are the good guys at the shopping mall.”

Andrew Doheny was all set to shape one of his signature alt-hi-fi sleds, until a very pretty girl stuck her head in Shaper Studio’s bay and begged, “Make ME a board.”

Always the gentleman, Droid obliged her, quickly shifting directions and knocking out this chunky Aipa stinger.
