StabFM: She’s Mad But Magic
Our ode to the female vocalist.
There is nothing more heart-wrenching and beautiful than a woman with pipes.
A frontgal who’s not afraid to bend out of pitch, to yell and to drift back into lullaby. This edition of Stabfm is an ode to the female vocalist; other than the murmurings of Gary O’Driscoll at the start of Pink Floyd’s Great Gig in the Sky (and few others), you won’t find many male additions here – if the howling of Clare Torry on that track doesn’t raise the hairs on your neck, well, honey, you’ve never loved.
Here’s one for the women who melt our hearts on stage, through car stereos, speakers and headphones. One for the voices that drift into our brains and leech onto our pineal glands, releasing just enough serotonin to make us fall down the stairs.
Again. And. Again.
The fourth edition of our semi-regular, whenever we want to Office Mixes features the musical talents of Nina Simone, Soko, Stereolab, Broadcast, Angel Olson, Karen O, Sugar Candy Mountain, Blondie, Cat Power, The Cranberries, Mr Twin Sister, Japanese Breakfast, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Blonde Redhead, Melody’s Echo Chamber and much more.
Uhhhh, Sing it sista!
