Your Increasingly Popular Weekly Vlog Roundup
Click or Miss Vol.9
Last week we posted an all-Hawaiian version of Click or Miss.
I’ve always wondered if people read this, and I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t. Vlogs definitely aren’t for everyone, and the goal of this piece has always been to bring you the week’s offerings in a succinct and informative manner without beating you over the head with multiple individual posts.
Well, it’s good to know that some are reading, as today the WSL decided to post an article with a strikingly similar format and angle to last week’s iteration of Click or Miss*. Who knew the vlog game was so hot?
I’m kinda flattered, kinda pissed, and expect absolutely no one to care. After all, these are Vlogs were talking about…
Anyway, this week we have another all-Hawaiian offering, with a few slots reserved for smaller channels who documented Saturday’s behemoths. Scroll to read what’s worth glossing over vs. what’s worth your ever precious click.

The crew over at RVCA has to be excited about their crop of young talent. Barron, Noah, and Makana are all budding stars in their own right. While this group’s impressions/reach are stronger together than they are apart, this clip does not represent the scope of their talents in the water or the editing bay. A seven-minute video that includes a five-minute intro of them dicking around in their front yard followed by two minutes of closeouts wouldn’t be something to scoff at if we didn’t know they were capable of so much more. Give the people what they want!

May there never come a day where we tell you to skip a Mase and Rory post. Like a crystal-clear glass of water from a cool mountain spring, this is timelessly refreshing entertainment. POV over dry reef, Hendrix, and Mase’s surfing is a combination that we’ve yet to see falter and doubt we ever will. Hear-hear to cracking the algorithm in their own way.

I was largely critical of Griffin and Crosby’s ‘Cola Bros’ endeavor upon its initial release. They’ve made me eat my words with how good they’ve been surfing on the North Shore. I actually enjoyed this episode as well as Griffin’s re-cap of his harrowing fall at Pipe. The reason this is catching a Miss this week is simple: quality. Whoever your guys’ filmer is please get them a tripod. Nothing makes world-class surfing look worse than an unsteady hand.

Mark Takamura has a channel full of long-form raw cuts featuring blue bird days on the North Shore. Yesterday he was posted up at Waimea on a day that makes us rue this wretched virus even more. No doubt if things were normal the Eddie would have gone, and what a joy that would have been.

While the full gambit of outer reefs broke on Oahu, Maui was windy and massive. Kai Lenny was towing all day and casually laying down carves on 40-footers, fading the West bowl as if it was a waist-high double up. Don’t get it twisted, this is the best tow surfing that’s ever been done. Please don’t try this unless your name last name is Lenny—and I’m not just referring to Kai, as his younger brother Ridge has proven himself to be quite an exciting tow surfer as well. If this is now, just imagine where we’ll be in 5 years…
