Women’s Day Treat: Kelia Moniz Wears Noosa Like A Silk Robe
Seen enough billowing Gold Coast tubes? Let’s head north to the Sunny Coast, where Kelia Moniz dances above Noosa Heads.
Yesterday was International Women’s Day, but so is today, thanks to the remarkable power of the International Date Line. As a result, we have roughly 12 more hours to honor our favorite female sliders until this time next year.
Yesterday was all about the athletic exploits of WSL competitors Carissa Moore, Courtney Conlogue, Caroline Marks, and beyond. Today we’ll be taking a more aesthetic route with Kelia Moniz’s aquatic ballet.
A 2x World Champ in her own right, Kelia took a few years off the Women’s Longboard Tour to do the arty-model-freesurfing thing (and she did it well!). But eventually that competitive drive kicked back in, resulting in Kelia’s emergence on the 2019 Noosa Longboard Open’s heat sheets. Kelia is currently in Round 3 and will surf again soon.
In the lead-up to this event, the young Hawaiian spent some time practicing on the famed Sunny Coast point, which you can watch above. One can’t help but sense Kelia’s connection with the ocean as she gingerly prances across Noosa’s surface, defying gravity with her lengthy noserides and attracting gazes with her effortless style.
It’s poetry in ocean.
