What Happens When You Borrow A Surfboard Forever?
Thomas Hermes may or may not have stolen this Album from us.
Lending somebody a surfboard is risky business.
The chance of the lendee breaking it is widely considered the biggest threat to the lender, but this is untrue. Really, the greatest risk is the lendee loving the board so much and surfing it so well that the lender has no choice but to hand the thing over.
Case in point: Tomas Hermes and the 5’3” Album Twinsman from the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Progressive Craft quiver assembled by Stab.
The VTCS rules this year stated that each surfer must submit one wave on an alternative board. The quiver mentioned in the paragraph above was born to help competitors do just that. On one almost-kinda-playful-but-also-you’re-gonna-fight-the-rip-forever day at Haleiwa, Tomas — who finished 7th overall and won the fan-favorite vote — decided to take the Album for a spin. It quickly became apparent that they made quite a match.
Says the shaper, Matt Parker, of the board:
“It’s a 5’3″ x 17.5″ x 2.13″ Twinsman round pin version. I adjusted the rocker a bit from standard with Hawaii in mind. It’s a daily driver type of board, but can hang in better surf. In the Sway edit we did with Josh Kerr, he’s riding this version of the model in almost anything over head high.”
It would have been unethical for us to peel the Twinsman back from Tomas. Go get yourself one, or get really creative and try to steal a different board from us.
