Weird Waves: Gerry Lopez Joins The Stream Surfing Squad
Mr. Pipeline joins Dylan Graves in Oregon to hunt some man-made river waves.
Happy Monday, Weird Waves with Dylan Graves is back! This time it’s part two of their stream surfing expedition. And it’s filmed on location in the always offshore Oregon.
This river wave is slightly different though. Rather than being a chance culmination of rocks and water, this wave has been brought about through some good old human engineering. And while the whitewaters main prerogative isn’t to float landlocked surfers, it makes as a fine shredding platform for somewhere 200 miles away from the nearest ocean.
Above, Dylan is joined by Alex Lopez and his dad, surfing legend, Gerry Lopez. We see all three give the man controlled stationary slope a crack, and even a few other locals who’ve opted for some alternative craft. Alex shapes his owns boards specifically for the stationary Oregon walls, whereas other seem to surf just fine on a reconstructed windsurfing board they bought for 20 bones.
