Watch: The Second-Youngest CT Qualifier Of All Time At Backdoor And Banzai Skatepark
Stab High Ladybird and one of 21’s most influential figures, Caity Simmers releases ‘Refund’.
Caity Simmers wasn’t trying to qualify for the world tour but then she did. She did her first year on the North American regional QS just to feel it out, but then she made finals-day in all three events and was seeded into the CS.
Caity again, wasn’t trying to make the tour when she showed up at Huntington Beach for the US Open of surfing in September last year. It was her first CS event. The bracket? Stacked. A heat win against any of the 64 hungry aspiring female tour surfers would suffice for a good experience.
But then 15-year-old Caity won 6 heats in a row and found herself being chaired up the beach to the winner’s stage alongside Griffin Colapinto.
Caity doesn’t try to do remarkable things. But now when she enters contests, quite often she wins them. When she goes for a paddle, shutters snap in her direction. When in public, quite often now she is stopped for an autograph.
We love Caity’s surfing, but also, as the lyrics in this song by Delta 5 stress, “Can’t you just mind your own business”, we can imagine the attention her success has brought at such a young age could feel surreal at times.
