Watch The 6 Stab x Coopers ‘Real To Reel’ Shortlisters

Our favorite reels from our quest to find authentic and underground Australian surf filmmakers.

The Coopers and Stab ‘Real to Reel’ contest is about celebrating surfing’s unsung heroes that stand in the sun all day and risk their lives to bring us digital pleasure that we’ll watch for a few seconds, double-tap, and then probably scroll right past.

Surfing is used to celebrating folks in front of the lens, ‘Real To Reel’ is about spiking the punch and elevating the folks who capture the moments and stories we care about in aesthetically-delighting technicolour bits.

We had 18 submissions for the ‘Real to Real’ contest from a range of well-established, and more underground filmmakers. Needless to say, we were humbled by the level of engagement and the quality of the entries.

The following six submissions made the shortlist for the ‘Real to Reel’ contest as judged by Stab’s Australian team. The winner will be working on one of our next major projects, bag $5K, and the glory that comes with winning the best reel from a pool of Australia’s top surf filmmaking talent.

Due to COVID and venue restrictions, Coopers x Stab have had to call off the event held at Suffolk Park Hotel on the 15th Feb. The winner will be announced on the same date via our website.
