Watch: One of the Most Spectular Waveriding Displays We’ve Seen, Full Stop
Mason and Blair tag-team the Wedge.
If someone managed to capture the above image from an ideal angle and with the proper resolution, and if tangible surf magazines were still a thing, there’s no doubt it would have landed a cover.
The more you look at this frame, the more absurd it becomes. There’s Mason Ho, in a familiar position at a familiar wave, but nonetheless enthralling the viewer. Then you look up. Is that…Jesus? No. It’s a Blair Conklin. Skim Jesus. Standing casually, his arms at 83 and 34 degrees respectively, looking down at his little buddy like a proud papa.
Throughout my childhood, I was obsessed with the idea of one surfer floating across a section that another surfer was being barreled beneath. Today, Mason and Blair made that a (quasi-)reality. We just need to get Goldilocks to ollie back into the wave and complete the implausible saga.
The rest of this edit is equally outrageous. The fact that Mason that can run into a side-wedge from the shore and use it to backdoor a six-foot tube is patently absurd. I know that’s common practice at the Wedge, but for whatever reason, this day looked special. Despite all the shenanigans happening in and around them, the waves in this clip seemed somehow less gimmicky than most Wedge sessions prior.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that this is not only the best single Wedge session, but one of the most spectacular waveriding displays I’ve seen. From start to finish, a true masterpiece. And fresh off a red-eye as well!
