Volume Up: Watch Bobby Martinez Make His Eponymous Quad Purr
Calling it now… 2025 Is Bobby Quad Summer.
This is what surfing looks like when you first encounter it.
This is also what good surfing looks like if you’re lucky enough to encounter it.
Shot over a single session, these rough cuts of Bobby Martinez surfing near his home in Santa Barbara are the closest you’ll get to heading down to your local and watching top-tier handling of relatable, and frankly, quite fun conditions while you suit up. Except you’re on the other side of the screen.
The disky board he’s putting through the motions is the Bobby Quad. Released in 2022, it was, according to Devon Howard, a board that nearly every CI team rider loved from the get-go. Stab’s founder, Sam Macintosh, has publicly expressed his admiration for the design, claiming its ugly duckling features are the only thing keeping it from becoming a widespread bestseller. Are we really that vacuous a bunch?

While it strays from the norm in terms of design, its shorter rail line makes it a breeze to fit through tight spaces without losing drive. The volume is distributed into its width, and its shape helps it fly through the flats between turns. Bobby, a certified master of speed, power, and flow, wanted to keep as much of that as possible in the shortest package. He’s seen here riding a 5’2” x 19” x 2 5/16”, his preferred dims.
If white noise isn’t your thing, queue up whatever track has been echoing inside your cranium, ideally before heading out for a languid summer session.
